Municipal Leaders
Millions of Canadians have a direct stake in the health of the Greenbelt. As a protected and carefully managed green space wrapping around the most densely populated urban region in the country, the Greenbelt makes a major contribution to the health and livability of our cities and towns. That’s why urban leaders from two dozen municipalities have signed our pledge to support the permanent protection of the Greenbelt. They have pledged to:
- Support the Greenbelt as a permanent feature of Ontario’s landscape and commit to maintaining the boundaries of the Greenbelt;
- Encourage the development of Natural Heritage Systems in every community that links to the Greenbelt; and,
- Ensure that planning decisions influencing the Greenbelt adhere to the Greenbelt Plan.
