Protecting Water for Future Generations: OGA Final Submission, March 7, 2018
TORONTO, ON – The Ontario Greenbelt Alliance (OGA), a coalition of over 120 organizations across Ontario, is pleased by the province’s plans announced today to grow and strengthen the Greenbelt while guiding smart urban growth through strong improvements to Ontario’s Growth Plan.
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Greenbelt Alliance (OGA) is pleased with the recommendations on Ontario’s Greenbelt and Growth Plans put forward by the panel led by former Toronto Mayor David Crombie. If further refined and implemented by the Province, the panel’s recommendations will increase the Greenbelt’s size, boost urban intensification to curb sprawl and ensure both plans have a strong climate action focus.
Toronto, ON -- Over 100 community groups, including the Oak Ridges Moraine Partnership and Ontario Greenbelt Alliance, are requesting that the provincial government grow the Greenbelt to protect 1.5 million acres of land containing vital water resources.
Durham, ON – A report passed today by Durham Council recommends whittling away at the Greenbelt.
In 2015, the Provincial government will review the Greenbelt, Oak Ridges Moraine and Niagara Escarpment Plans. Many municipalities are currently providing comments on the effectiveness of the plans.
Toronto, ON – We applaud the City of Toronto for passing a historic motion to move forward with protecting the city’s urban river valleys as part of Ontario’s Greenbelt. This means the Don and Humber rivers and Etobicoke Creek will finally join the Rouge Watershed as protected areas under the Greenbelt Act.
