As an Ontarian, I care about Ontario’s world-famous Greenbelt. I know a healthy Greenbelt is vital for climate resilience, conserving biodiversity, providing clean air and drinking water and growing local food.
I know we need to (re)build our communities to accommodate a growing population, make them sustainable and climate resilient, and solve the housing affordability crisis.
The actions to address these priorities will also protect the Greenbelt and surrounding lands.
Accordingly, I will:
- Oppose actions that drive sprawl - a development approach that undermines housing affordability, climate resilience, local farming and the health of the Greenbelt;
- Support actions that create neighbourhoods in existing built-up areas with affordable and appropriate housing for all stages of life that are walkable and transit-friendly and using green infrastructure;
- Support actions that protect the existing Greenbelt from development and bring more farmland, natural areas and water resources under Greenbelt protection.
